Man loses two cats worth nearly RM10,000 during armed robbery

A cat breeder was robbed at knife-point of his mobile phone and two cats worth nearly RM10,000.

Relating the ordeal, 26-year-old Ryan Cheah said he first met the suspect on the first day of Chinese New Year.

“The man came to my house and purchased a cat on that day. A few days later the man contacted me again and expressed interest in buying two more cats and wanted to meet me at a parking lot of a shopping mall on Feb 18,” he said when contacted on Thursday. (Feb 22)

He said he felt something was amiss and decided to meet the buyer at a nearby bus stop instead.

“I went there with my girlfriend at around 7.30pm and we noticed that the buyer’s car was smashed up, like it had just been involved in an accident,” said Cheah.

I went to speak to the buyer and entered his car and that’s when he pulled out a knife and demanded that I transfer all my money to him,” he added, saying that the man also instructed one of his friends at the scene to take the cats from Cheah’s girlfriend.

He said his girlfriend did not suspect anything was wrong as she could not see what was going on in the other vehicle.

“Once the other man took the cats I saw an opportunity to escape and unlocked the car door and tried to get out. It was then that the man brandished a machete and tried to slash me,” he said, adding that he suffered multiple wounds to his hands and legs in the incident.

He added that he had received 36 stitches for the slash wounds to his right arm and right leg.

He said the suspects managed to flee the scene with the two cats worth nearly RM10,000 and his mobile phone.

Cheah said he was traumatised after the incident.

“They know where I live. What if they come to my house,” he asked.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid when contacted confirmed the incident.

“We have made arrests in connection with this case and will issue a statement on the matter soon,” he said.
