MACC begins probe into alleged RM92.5bil leakage, multiple raids carried out
PUTRAJAYA: Anti-graft investigators have begun their investigation into allegations of leakages in the economic stimulus package worth RM92.5bil by the previous administration with multiple raids carried out, including on eight government agencies.
It is learnt that investigators had also paid a visit to nine companies which were main suppliers.
The raids were carried out around the Klang Valley on Thursday (Dec 15).
Sources in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the raids were the first phase of investigation carried out to look into claims of leakages.
The eight agencies were said to have received a large amount of allocation in 2020 and 2021 under the stimulus package approved by the previous administration.
“Our officers had also gone to the officers of nine major suppliers to obtain documents and files related to the case,” said a source on Thursday.

However, the same source did not reveal if there were any findings or discoveries from the raids.
On Dec 10, the MACC had said that out of the RM530bil spent by the government on Covid-19 management in 2020 and 2021, only RM92.5bil had been government funds, adding that due to this, its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds by the previous government would now focus on the said amount.
The MACC said the Finance Ministry had provided it with details on the breakdown of the funds under the economic stimulus packages in 2020 and 2021 for Covid-19 management.
On Dec 6, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said it had opened an investigation paper into the alleged misappropriation of RM600bil in funds by the previous government.
