PETALING JAYA: Kedah Football Association CEO Zulkifli Che Haron was released on bail this morning after giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Kedah FA said Zulkifli was released at 10am together with three others detained by MACC on Friday.

They were detained for an investigation into a corruption case involving RM6 million in kickbacks over a tender to build a racetrack and another project to operate and maintain five water reservoir plants.

In a statement today, Kedah FA sought to clarify Zulkifli’s role, saying the CEO’s function is to streamline the association’s administration and its secretariat’s functions.

The Kedah FA maintained that it had nothing to do with any state government project, pointing out that the association’s every decision must be decided by its executive council.

“The association denies being involved in any form of corruption. Since the association’s formation, its main source of income is through contributions from companies and corporate bodies. Every contribution of funds is recorded in its financial report and tabled (annually).

“For the record, the Kedah FA CEO, who was appointed in August 2020, has worked hard to resolve the issues of salary arrears and debt owed to statutory bodies since the association’s administration changed hands,” the statement read.
