High-Speed Broadband brings smooth online learning experience to rural areas

JASIN, July 6 — High-speed Internet access via the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) pilot project in rural areas has been instrumental in enabling a smooth online learning experience, especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

The High-Speed Broadband (HSBB) service, which is also enjoyed by residents of Felda Tun Ghafar Baba Kemendor, has allowed households with a large number of users to use various learning applications without any interruptions.

Muhammad Nazmi Aminuddin, 21, a public university student, said attending classes online via video call, Google classroom or WhatsApp was a fairly smooth affair.

“There has been a significant difference since it (HSBB) was introduced more than a year ago. Until today, I have faced absolutely no issues in terms of downloading a video or playing a game online.

“There are six people in my family using the same internet at home, but the speed still remains good without interruption, and we are very pleased with the government’s efforts in improving the quality of broadband services, especially for areas that are far from the city,” he said when met by reporters here today.

Earlier, Muhammad Nazmi and his family were met at their home by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who was on a working visit to observe the usage of the service in the area.

Meanwhile, Aminuddin Ali, 56, said he had been using the HSBB since April last year, which was especially beneficial to his four children who were still studying.

He said he was satisfied with the service which cost RM140 a month, as there had been no lag or disruptions to the service since the project was launched.

The government project, in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has allowed residents around Jasin, especially those living at the Jasin Police quarters, Taman Merbau Perdana, Taman Maju and Felda Kemendor to enjoy broadband speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (1Gbps) at affordable prices.
