Gary Neville has something ‘important’ to say about

Gary Neville has insisted that it is important to acknowledge what Darwin Nunez did for Liverpool in their win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.

The belief that Liverpool are simply not going to allow Jurgen Klopp to go without another title win under his belt would have gathered some momentum after their latest victory.

The Reds rode their luck at times. And they had to wait until the 99th minute before Darwin Nunez headed home Alexis Mac Allister’s perfectly-weighted cross.

Gary Neville praises Darwin Nunez after Liverpool win

Nottingham Forest felt aggrieved as they should have been awarded possession a couple of minutes earlier after the referee stopped the game with Ibrahima Konate down with a head injury.

Understandably, that has been the major talking point to come from the game, with Nunez finding the back of the net less than two minutes later.

But speaking on The Gary Neville PodcastGary Neville claimed that the quality of what Nunez did to get the decisive goal should not be overlooked in the drama.

“What I would say, I think it’s important to talk about that goal first. There’s a lovely little bit of movement from Nunez just to connect with that Mac Allister pass. That little look up from Mac Allister, he just sees him and he obviously clips it in. But watch Nunez’s little run to make that dart in behind,” he said.

“And I sometimes think of Nunez as not being the smartest, not being the most subtle in his game, but that was a really good goal that, and a really good striker movement.”

Another significant victory for the Reds

Certainly, that has the potential to be a moment which is looked back upon as being key should Liverpool now go on and clinch the title.

And Nunez has earned the right to be at the centre of it. He now has 10 goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season. That is a pretty impressive return for a player who appeared to be so erratic during his first year on Merseyside.

Liverpool will only take enormous belief from that result, too. Once again, Jurgen Klopp had to field a number of younger players.

But once again, the Reds found a way to win.
