Anthony Loke is DAP’s new sec-gen

Anthony Loke has been appointed as DAP’s new secretary-general.

This was announced by the party’s 17th National Congress speaker Chiew Chiu Sing at IDCC Shah Alam tonight following the conclusion of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) election earlier today.

Chiew also said the newly formed 2022-2025 CEC had chosen Lim Kit Siang, who had announced his retirement from his 56-year political stint, as the party’s mentor.

Lim Guan Eng is now the national chairman while Gobind Singh Deo is the deputy national chairman.

Tan Kok Wai is the party adviser while Nga Kor Ming is the parliament chief whip.

The vice-national chairmen are Nga, Chow Kon Yeow, Chong Chieng Jen, M. Kulasegaran and Teresa Kok Suh Sim.

The deputy secretaries-general are Liew Chin Tong, Sivakumar Varatharaju Naidu and Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji.

Loke described the newly formed CEC line-up as the beginning of a new phase of third-generation (3G) leaders who would bring DAP to greater heights.

“We have first generation leaders like Kit Siang who has retired and we have second generation leaders like Tan and Guan Eng who are in the CEC but they are giving space to 3G leaders like me, Gobind, Liew, Steven Sim, Teo Nie Ching, Wong Kah Woh and others to lead the party to face future challenges.

“In my maiden speech as secretary-general to the new CEC members, I have stated that I am taking on the inclusive and collective approaches where every DAP leader, regardless if they are in the CEC or not, will have a role to play to strengthen the party,” said Loke.

Loke thanked his predecessor, Guan Eng, who held the position since 2004 and had led the party to success in several states as well as Putrajaya in 2018.

“I want to record our gratitude to Tan who will continue to advice the CEC.

“Also to Kit Siang, without him, DAP will not be as strong as it is. This is why the CEC had unanimously voted him as party mentor,” said Loke.

In the party election, Gobind emerged tops by securing 1,782 votes while Chow and Loke garnered 1,641 and 1,625 votes respectively.

Out of 4,149 delegates, 2,179 have voted for the 30-member CEC line-up.

The nine women in the CEC are Kok, Hannah Yeoh, Lim Hui Ying, Alice Lau, Teo, Young Syefura Othman, Kasthuriraani Patto, Wong Shu Qi and Jannie Lasimbang.
