Two friends charged with killing homeless man
Two friends were charged at the magistrate’s court here today for killing a homeless man last month.
The accused, Muhammad Aliff Daniel Wong Abdullah and Joel V Michael Louis, both 20, face the death penalty if they are convicted.
No plea was recorded by Magistrate Mazana Sinin from the duo.
According to the charge, both accused were charged with jointly killing Mohd Eddie Hafiez Yusof, 42, in front of shop No89 Lot G Jalan Pistiran Bunga Raya on March 15 between 1 and 3.45am.
The duo were charged under Section 320 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Fiqri Hakim Zamri while Counsel Andrew Lourdes and Amritpal Singh represented Muhammad Aliff and Joel, respectively.
The lawyer also applied for a short mention date and appealed for the case to be transferred to the High Court immediately because the police had not allowed them to meet the accused since they were remanded.
The court then set April 26 for mention and submission of the post-mortem report.
It was previously reported that a homeless man was found seriously injured after he was believed to have been beaten in front of a shop in Jalan Pesisiran Bunga Raya here, early morning, on March 15.
The victim was found covered in blood by members of the public on the sidewalk of the building at about 7.20am.
The victim was reported to be in a coma for three days due to bleeding in the head, torn lips as well as a ruptured organ in the abdomen. He died on March 18.
