PUTRAJAYA: Four men, including a chief executive officer and two consultants of a football association, have been arrested for allegedly seeking and accepting bribes amounting to more than RM6mil.

The four, aged between 40 and 60, were arrested on Thursday (Jan 4) evening when they were summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Kedah office to have their statements recorded.

Sources said that based on investigations so far, the money was placed in the accounts of the football club.

“The money is believed to be a ‘reward’ for helping a company owner obtain a tender for a project and also to manage, operate and maintain five reservoirs in a state,” said a source.

The four suspects were remanded for three days beginning Friday (Jan 5) after Magistrate Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor allowed the application by MACC prosecutors.

MACC senior director of investigation Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the arrest and said the agency was investigating the case.
