Peter Anthony’s stay application to be decided on Aug 1

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has fixed Aug 1 to decide on former Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony’s application for a stay of his conviction involving corruption charges.

Judge Azura Alwi made the decision after hearing lengthy submissions from both parties today.

Anthony, 51, was sentenced to three years jail and RM50,000 fine on May 25 after he was found guilty of using false documents relating to a system maintenance contract nine years ago.

He was granted a stay of sentence pending his appeal to the High Court, and he paid the fine the same day.

However, his counsel had filed for a stay of conviction on his jail sentence on June 11.

The application was filed to ensure his conviction will not jeopardise his nomination for a parliamentary seat in the coming general election.
