SHAH ALAM – Popular director and actor Michael Ang today lambasted Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister, Fuziah Salleh for giving inaccurate statements over prices of groceries in the supermarket

Taking to Instagram, Ang posted a short video showing the groceries he bought to cook home-cooked chicken noodles soup and made a comparison to Fuziah’s statement who gave an assurance that eating at home is could cut cost than eating at a restaurant.

“Today I did some research on whether cooking at home is cheaper or more expensive than eating out.

“So I went to a supermarket to buy groceries to cook and made a comparison based on what the minister (Fuziah) has said.

“Cooking one meal for six people costs RM96, so basically its RM16 per person. If we eat out, a bowl of soup would cost RM9. Sorry minister, your theory can’t be used,” he posted on his instagram story.

Checks on the comment section found that netizens were divided into two opinions where some feel its worth the money while felt it was not.

Instagram user Aqyeala said its the worth the money because the home cooked meal can be eaten multiple times while eating at restaurant has its limits in portion.

“It’s cheaper to buy outside but when we cook, we can eat multiple times unti we’re full.

“If you eat outside, you’ll be full on the spot and if you get hungry at night you have to purchase the food again so for me its better to cook,” she said.

Meanwhile, another Instagram user Mariam Rohana said its expensive in the current situation to buy groceries and cook home-cooked meals.

“Currently its even more expensive to buy groceries and cook at home.

“I spend RM300 for groceries and it only last for one to two weeks only, so I have to spend at least another RM300 to purchase more groceries.

“In this case, what the minister (Fuziah) tried to convey does not make any sense,” she said.

Recently, a viral video of Fuziah purchasing groceries at a supermarket in Langkawi, Kedah has been taken out of context.

In a statement, Fuziah said the old recording was taken when the ministry was addressing the issue of having RM200 and not being able to purchase many necessities.

In the viral video, Fuziah made purchases of basic necessities at a supermarket for less than RM200.

Among the daily necessities purchased were biscuits, beverage powder, instant noodles, canned sardines, flour, oil, milk, 10 kilograms of rice, onions, and chicken.

Fuziah explained that all these items only cost RM136.30.

Meanwhile, on Sept 18 Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said a large part of people’s income are spend on eating out.

He said as a result of this unhealthy practice, people experience a decrease in income and become more sensitive to sudden inflation in the prices of cooked food, even though the core inflation has decreased.
