Nga to meet KL mayor after finding Dataran Merdeka’s facilities lacking

PETALING JAYA: Local government development minister Nga Kor Ming will be meeting Kuala Lumpur mayor Mahadi Che Ngah soon over the maintenance of public infrastructure and facilities in the city.

According to Bernama, Nga said this came after a visit to Dataran Merdeka yesterday, where he found certain public facilities, including toilets, in need of repairs.

“The roof of the men’s toilet is damaged, the water pipes aren’t working properly and the hand soap bottles were not refilled.

“However, the public toilets’ cleanliness is quite satisfactory and the lighting system works well,” he said.

Nga said Dataran Merdeka’s field was not well-maintained, the underground commercial space was dilapidated, while the electric switch box was not properly covered, posing danger to visitors.

He said it was important to maintain facilities like public toilets, especially at tourist hotspots, as they were essentially a reflection of the country’s image.

He hoped that all 155 local governments across the country would set up a unit dedicated to monitoring the cleanliness of public toilets in their jurisdictions.

This would ensure that the public toilets were always clean, functioning well and in an orderly condition.
