MP slams Anwar man’s appointment as head of Berjaya-owned retail store chain

ABersatu MP today hit out at news of the appointment of Farhash Wafa Salvador, Anwar Ibrahim’s former political secretary, as chairman of the 7-Eleven chain, questioning Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) calls for good governance and reforms.

Citing as well Farhash’s earlier appointment as group executive chairman of Apex Equity Holdings Bhd, Ketereh MP Khlir Mohd Nor said it was “public knowledge” that Farhash was “a close confidante of Anwar”.

“Farhash’s appointments to these positions right after Anwar’s elevation to the PM’s office amounts to a negation of good governance in Malaysia,” he said.

“It aggravates and continues the unsavoury nexus of business and politics in this country, and it is distasteful and disgusting.”

Berjaya-owned 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd had said in an announcement to Bursa Malaysia that Farhash would replace Robin Tan Yeong Ching, the son of billionaire tycoon Vincent Tan, who was appointed as chairman on Nov 25, 2021.

Farhash was also appointed as group executive chairman of Apex Equity Holdings Bhd last week, replacing Ahmad Redza Abdullah who stepped down in September 2022 after three months.

In his statement, Khlir urged Anwar to explain how these appointments were consistent with either good governance or reform.

“Where are the endless promises made by PH of good governance and integrity in administering the nation?” he added.

“Farhash’s appointments are proof that PH and Anwar’s so-called ‘reform’ agenda is a sham and nothing but a political tactic to dupe voters.”
