RM1,000 cash aid for cross-country job seekers

PETALING JAYA: The government will offer cash aid to job seekers who obtain employment across the South China Sea or in foreign countries.

The aid allocation was announced in the 2023 national budget yesterday.

The finance ministry said RM1,000 aid would be provided for job seekers who are required to move after obtaining employment in Sabah or Sarawak from Peninsular Malaysia or vice versa.

Those who obtain employment overseas will receive RM500 to assist with their move abroad.

The budget also allocated RM1 billion in social aid to persons with disabilities, RM900 million for the elderly, and RM408 million for child support.

The federal government has proposed to spend RM388 billion on operating expenditure and develpment projects this year.

The education and health ministries received the biggest allocations, while RM64 billion was set aside for government subsidies, aid and incentives.

Among the education and health allocations were:

  • RM724.2 million for the monthly allowances of Islamic preachers and Kafa and Takmir teachers;
  • RM42 million for one-off payments of RM500 for the 72,000 preachers and teachers;
  • RM6.6 billion for education facilities for Bumiputera children through Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and Mara institutes as well as to enhance access to loans and opportunities to pursue professions.
  • RM300 million to maintain and upgrade public universities.
  • RM4.9 billion for the procurement of medicines, reagents and vaccines.
  • RM10 million for the procurement of generators for 10 hospitals.
  • RM100 million to replace obsolete medical equipment.

The government also allocated RM463 million for public housing projects; RM200 million for the maintenance of low-cost public housing in Kuala Lumpur, and RM460 million to renovate houses in rural areas.
