PUTRAJAYA: Bersatu will enforce amendments to its constitution against its rogue elected representatives immediately upon approval by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), says party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said ROS did not give a specific timeframe of when the amendments would be approved, adding that the party had submitted all the documents required.

“We wait until the official decision.

“And We will enforce the amendments to the party constitution as soon as possible.

“We hope there will be no objection from the ROS regarding our decision.

“If there are additional requirements, our party secretary will provide them,” he said at the ROS headquarters here yesterday.

Muhyiddin arrived at about 11am and spent around 30 minutes submitting party documents.

Among those who came were Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and vice-president Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.

Muhyiddin also said Bersatu believes it has fulfilled all of the ROS’ technical requirements on its amendments to the party constitution.

He added that the amendments were agreed upon during its recent general assembly, which was attended by more members than required by the ROS.

During an extraordinary general meeting attended by about 1,500 delegates on March 2, Bersatu passed a motion to amend Clause 10 of its constitution to automatically nullify the membership of any of its elected representatives who shift their allegiance to rival parties.

On a separate matter, Muhyiddin said there is no such thing as “cartels” within Bersatu and that Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari should not make such claims after committing a faux pax against the party.

“There are no cartels … don’t find an excuse after you committed a big mistake.

“Making accusations against the party is an irresponsible act,” he said, adding that Bersatu operates on its party constitution and rules.

“Rashid was the state Bersatu chairman and if there is a cartel, it would be his,” Muhyiddin said sarcastically.

He was responding to Rashid, who was quoted by a news portal as claiming that Selangor Bersatu is under the influence of a cartel led by a leader who recently joined the party.

Without naming names, Rashid said that this was among the reasons why he decided to declare support for Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Last Wednesday, Rashid declared support for Amirudin, but said he remained committed as a Bersatu member.
