What Anthony Gordon was telling his England teammates about potential Newcastle exit for Liverpool

Anthony Gordon has had quite the week off the field with the England campa as Newcastle United’s PSR scares rumbled on.
Newcastle are now out of the woods when it comes to the PSR deadline with late deals for Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh providing much-needed funds
Eddie Howe‘s side had been left sweating in the final week of June with the financial deadline looming over them at St James’ Park.
As each day passed by, the prospect of Newcastle having to cash in on one of their crown jewels became a lot more real with the likes of Alexander Isak a potential sacrifice.
Another option for the Toon was Anthony Gordon with links to a massive move to Liverpool having emerged over the final days of the month.
What Anthony Gordon was saying about possible Newcastle exit
Gordon only made the move to Tyneside last January from Everton and yet it seemed as if Newcastle had to seriously consider whether they were going to let him go already.
The PSR situation Newcastle found themselves in was a total mess and put them at serious risk of losing some of their best talent.
Although they may not have lost some of their top players, they still lost a homegrown player in Anderson and a promising winger in Minteh.
And it seems as if Gordon would have very much approved the possibility of returning back to Merseyside.
According to The Telegraph, Gordon had been talking to his England teammates about the potential move to Liverpool as he wanted it to go through.
Liverpool had made contact over a possible deal but it is said it was Gordon’s agent who was really trying to push through a move.
The report also adds the numbers Liverpool were discussing were so low that they would not have made a real impact to Newcastle’s PSR deficit.
Anthony Gordon leaves door open for Liverpool
Perhaps the worrying thing for Newcastle is the player would be keen to make the move and it seems his agent was at the heart of the talks.
However, Newcastle spent £45m on the winger in January 2023 so any deal for the England international would have to see the Toon rake in a considerable profit.
Gordon has come across extremely well in the media and has made it very apparent just how ambitious he is as a person.
If Newcastle are not able to bounce back this season and return to European football, it could leave for an interesting summer next year.
