Ex-PAS man becoming Bersatu’s candidate for Nenggiri a non-issue, says Peja
PETALING JAYA: There is nothing wrong with a former PAS member joining Bersatu solely to be a candidate in the Nenggiri by-election as he will still represent Perikatan Nasional, says a Bersatu leader.
Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu denied that his party is short on candidates, but stressed that their priority is to select the best possible candidate.
He also said the selection of former Gua Musang PAS Youth deputy chief Rizwadi Ismail as PN’s candidate for the Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17 has been approved by leaders from Bersatu and PAS.
“This is a Bersatu candidate running under the PAS logo. He (Rizwadi) is representing PN, so it’s not an issue.
“Bersatu and PAS leaders, whether at the division, state or central level, have all agreed to him representing PN,” he told a press conference after the announcement of the PN candidate in Renok, Gua Musang.

Earlier, Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud announced that Rizwadi, 41, a former navy officer, will be PN’s candidate for the Nenggiri by-election. He said Rizwadi stays in Nenggiri, Gua Musang, and used to be a PAS member.
He also said Rizwadi was given “permission” to join Bersatu since the Nenggiri seat belongs to the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party.
Faizal, also known as Peja, said Rizwadi’s selection also took into account that the majority of voters in Nenggiri are youths.
Barisan Nasional has named Kelantan Umno Youth chief Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani as its candidate for the by-election.
Nominations will be held on Aug 3 and early voting has been set for Aug 13.
