Greedy of Kluang Amanah to demand Mahkota seat, says Johor Umno Youth

PETALING JAYA: Johor Umno Youth has slammed Kluang Amanah for demanding to contest the Mahkota state seat, calling the division rash and greedy.

Its chief, Noor Azleen Ambros, said such a public demand is disrespectful and insensitive to the family of the seat’s incumbent, Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, who died last Friday.

“The rash and greedy attitude displayed by the leadership of Kluang Amanah reveals their power-hungry motives, showing a lack of sympathy in their politics,” he told FMT.

Azleen also said any demand should be made through discussions and not hastily to strengthen the relationship among all component parties in the unity government.

“The consensus of the leadership at every level in the unity government should be the foundation to gain the trust and confidence of the people,” he said.

Azleen’s remarks come after Kluang Amanah earlier today demanded the opportunity to contest the upcoming by-election for the Mahkota seat in Johor.

The division’s chief, Zuhan Zain, said the call was based on Amanah’s victory in the seat in the 14th general election (GE14) and its participation in last August’s state polls, Berita Harian reported.

Zuhan also expressed confidence that a Pakatan Harapan candidate could win the Mahkota seat comfortably based on data from the last general election (GE15).

Malaysiakini later reported that Kluang Amanah would press on with its bid to contest the Mahkota seat despite the backlash.

Zuhan was quoted as saying that while Sharifah was respected and would be missed for her contributions, discussions about her successor should proceed immediately.
