The Attorney-General’s Chambers is set to file an appeal on behalf of the Kuala Lumpur land registrar.

PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) will appeal a High Court’s decision ordering the government to return 263.27 acres of land in Batu to a company.

“On behalf of the Kuala Lumpur land registrar, the AGC will file an appeal to the Court of Appeal and apply for a stay of execution of the High Court’s decision,” it said in a statement.

Earlier today, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered the government to return to a company 263.27 acres of land in Batu where multiple government complexes had been built.

In his decision on the long-standing dispute on Tuesday, Justice Ahmad Shahrir Salleh granted Semantan Estate Sdn Bhd’s application to give effect to a court order the company was awarded in 2009 for the land to be transferred to the company’s liquidator.

He dismissed Putrajaya’s request for a three-month adjournment for settlement talks, noting that negotiations had been ongoing since 2013 without success, The Edge reported.

The court ordered the Kuala Lumpur land registrar and the government to transfer the land, issue the title, and return possession to Semantan Estate’s liquidator within three months.

The judge also ordered the government to pay RM50,000 in costs.

The land was acquired by the government for RM1.32 million in 1956 under the then Land Acquisition Enactment, to develop the area as a diplomatic enclave.

It now houses the national archives, KL shariah court, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Academy and Inland Revenue Board building, among others.
