Kluang Amanah concedes, will back BN candidate in Mahkota
PETALING JAYA: Kluang Amanah will comply with the decision of top party leaders not to field a candidate for the Mahkota by-election in Johor next month.
Division chief Zuhan Zain said it has received official notification from the party regarding the decision not to contest the by-election for the state assembly seat.
“Kluang Amanah is fully prepared to support the Barisan Nasional candidate in the Mahkota by-election,” he said in a statement today, which comes in the wake of Pakatan Harapan’s decision yesterday to sit out the by-election in favour of BN.
Zuhan expressed appreciation for the response from BN leaders, especially coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, regarding their previous request.
“I have also been informed that Umno has invited Johor PH to a meeting on Aug 26 where Zahid will be present,” he said. “This is a positive signal towards fostering a unity government in Johor and coordinating efforts for the Mahkota state constituency.”

The Johor state government is formed by Barisan Nasional, which has 40 seats in the state assembly, with the support of Pakatan Harapan (12 seats). However, the two coalitions have not formed an alliance, as with the federal government.
Kluang Amanah had previously lobbied to contest Mahkota, prompting brickbats from several Umno leaders, with Zahid warning other parties in the unity government coalition not to demand to contest the seat.
The by-election on Sept 28 was called following the death of assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain of Umno two weeks ago.
