PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has challenged Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to summon the non-PN MPs who provided him with statutory declarations purportedly backing him as prime minister after the 15th general election.

Puad was commenting on reports that Muhyiddin had submitted several documents, including 115 SDs, to the police yesterday after being questioned about a speech he made during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.

“This (submitting the SDs to the police) alone is insufficient. There must be an open, verbal acknowledgement from the MPs who are not affiliated with Perikatan Nasional to prove the authenticity of these SDs.

“Without confirmation from these MPs, the SDs may have been used to mislead the public who are unaware of the full story.

“They (the non-PN MPs) must openly declare their support for Muhyiddin as the 10th prime minister,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that “only the palace knows the truth”.

Puad had previously dared Muhyiddin to name the 115 MPs who supposedly backed him to be given the top post in 2022.

Yesterday, the Bersatu president spent about an hour at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority building giving a statement to the police over his speech in Nenggiri.

In his speech, Muhyiddin questioned why he was not invited by the former king, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, to become the prime minister after GE15.

The Pagoh MP said he had obtained a simple majority and had the backing of enough MPs to form the government.

On Monday, he defended his speech, saying it was not intended to insult the monarchy or incite the public, but was factual.
