Leeds can make a title-winning deal in January by signing Championship striker with a ‘wand of a left foot’

Leeds United are widely tipped as one of the favourites to gain promotion from the Championship this season.

The Whites have one of the strongest squads in the division and having gone so close last term, the pressure is on Daniel Farke to secure a top-two finish.

Though, they are perhaps missing a bit of firepower up front with a heavy reliance on young Matteo Joseph to deliver.

Joel Piroe isn’t an out and out number nine, so he doesn’t really fit into Farke’s system, leaving Patrick Bamford as the only backup.

To help Joseph deal with the congested fixture list, Leeds should sign a young striker from their promotion rivals.

His potential arrival could fire them to the Championship title…

Leeds should try to sign Eliezer Mayenda

Leeds United should move to sign a striker in the January transfer window and Sunderland’s Eliezer Mayenda would be a fantastic option.

The 19-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Hibernian, has netted two times whilst laying on as many assists in four outings so far this term.

Mayenda has represented Spain at youth level, which amplifies just how highly-rated he is and if Leeds were to poach him at this stage of his career, they could develop him into an established Premier League player.

Former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray, speaking last year, said he has a ‘wand of a left foot.’

“But he’s very talented, and he’s got a wand of a left foot with real power in it,” Mowbray said, via Sports Illustrated.

“He’s very dynamic, quick, fast.”

Eliezer Mayenda statistics

Aside from his goals and assists, Mayenda’s underlying data is really encouraging.

According to FBref, the Spaniard ranks in the top 12 per cent for progressive carries per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe, evincing his terrific dribbling ability.

Further, Mayenda sits in the top 14 per cent for tackles per 90, demonstrating that he carries out his defensive responsibilities, too.

The Sunderland forward has everything needed to go right to the very top such is why Leeds should flex their muscles and launch a proposal in Janaury.
