Govt officer fined RM15,000 for picking wife’s vehicle tender bid
KOTA KINABALU: A civil servant who selected a bid from his wife to buy a government vehicle during a tender process has pleaded guilty to a charge of abuse of power at the Sessions Court here on Monday (Feb 19).
Sessions judge Jason Jugah imposed a fine of RM15,000 in default five months’ jail on Mohaidy Tabin, a diplomatic administrative officer attached to the National Security Council.
The vehicle was ordered to be returned to the government.
Mohaidy paid the fine for the offence, framed under Section 26 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which carries a maximum penalty of RM50,000 or a jail term not exceeding seven years if found guilty.
Mohaidy was accused of committing the offence on Oct 18, 2018, at the Insolvency Department Tawau branch office when he chaired the tender committee to decide on bids for the vehicle.
He was accused of using his position to select Faizah Noor Fauzi, his wife, as the successful bidder for the vehicle valued at RM15,000, and of personally using the vehicle.
MACC prosecuting officer Rekhraj Singh conducted the government’s case while Mohaidy was represented by Sarfin Salleh.
