Special committee to vet Bersatu reps’ response to notice
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal says the special committee will determine the next course of action based on the response from the Bersatu elected representatives.

KUALA LUMPUR: A special committee will meet to review the response received from all Bersatu elected representatives to the party’s notice, including the feedback from the seven who have pledged support for the unity government.

It is understood that the seven – six MPs and one assemblyman – have submitted their replies to party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, but they are reportedly deemed unsatisfactory.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the feedback from all the party’s elected representatives will be scrutinised by the special committee, which will then decide on the next course of action.

Wan Fayhsal said he was not authorised to comment further.

“The committee will convene to determine the subsequent action,” he told FMT.

In the notice, the Bersatu representatives were given 14 days until today to state their stand after the six MPs pledged their support to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and the assemblyman to Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

Hamzah reportedly said failure to respond to the letters within the specified period would lead to the immediate termination of their membership.

The notice purportedly contains directives, including instructions to uphold party loyalty and support its policies, while also signalling non-allegiance to the unity government.

The MPs are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

All six MPs justified their support for the federal government by citing the needs of their constituencies. However, they said they would remain loyal to Bersatu.

In early March, Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari voiced support for Amirudin, citing the same reasons as the six MPs.
