Liew poised to continue leading Sabah Pakatan

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR has appointed its senior leader Datuk Christina Liew to head its political bureau in a move to strengthen her position as state Pakatan Harapan chairman.

Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said on Sunday (July 7) that the decision was for Liew to continue to lead the four-party coalition in the state.

Liew’s position requires her to put in place a structure that balances representation among the coalition’s components and their divisions, as well as leaders of various races and faiths.

“This shows that PKR is ready to face the state election, which can be held at any time, with a new leadership line-up,” said Mustapha, the federal Deputy Higher Education Minister, who took over the party’s state leadership two months ago.

Liew is state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister.

Sabah Pakatan comprises PKR, DAP, Upko and Amanah and also supports the state Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The next state election is due in October next year.

On a separate matter, Mustapha said Sabah PKR had distributed assistance to last week’s flood victims in Penampang, Putatan and Sepanggar.
