Tajuddin questions Umno president’s sincerity in welcoming back ex-members
PETALING JAYA: A former Umno Supreme Council member has questioned the sincerity of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in welcoming back former members into its fold.
Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, who has been suspended from Umno for six years since October 2022, said while it was commendable to invite former members back, he wondered if the offer was made in good faith.
“This has been promised many times, yet we have not seen it happen,” he said in a video.
Last Tuesday, Zahid said Umno is open to the return of any former member, including former party veteran Mustapa Mohamed.
He also said Umno had received many applications from former members wanting to rejoin the party.

Umno Supreme Council member Jalaluddin Alias has also said the party would welcome back leaders and members who were expelled after the 15th general election.
On Saturday, Umno vice-president Johari Ghani said former members seeking to return to the party’s fold should be made to take an oath to never jump ship again.
In the video, Tajuddin, a former Pasir Salak MP, said the party should deal with its internal strife. He said a majority of the members shared the same goal of wanting to strengthen Umno and working together.
He also slammed members who left the party after they were not given any ministerial posts, adding that some had sought such posts.
