Kit Siang to get Penang’s highest civilian honour
Lim Kit Siang leads the list of 142 people receiving top honours from Penang governor Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak tomorrow.

GEORGE TOWN: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang will be bestowed with Penang’s highest civilian honour, the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri, with the title of “Datuk Seri Utama”.

He leads the list of 142 people receiving top honours from Penang governor Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak tomorrow.

Lim received the title of “Tan Sri” from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last year.



An opposition leader for 29 years, Lim served as an MP for 11 terms in five states from 1969 to 2022.

Besides Lim, Penang state assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang and Bank Negara Malaysia governor Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour will receive the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which carries a “Datuk Seri” title.

Penang state secretary Rosli Isa and Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department director Khaw Kok Chin will also be conferred the DGPN.
Penang deputy chief minister I Mohamad Abdul Hamid, a first-term assemblyman, will receive the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN), which confers the title of “Datuk”.

Malaysian Small and Medium Industries Association president William Ng will also get the DMPN.

Seberang Perai City Council mayor Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid will receive the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which also carries the title of “Datuk”.

Also set to receive the DSPN are Malaysian ambassador to Timor-Leste SS Amarjit Singh; Rashidi Zinol, the sole Umno man in the state executive council; and Penang Water Supply Corporation CEO K Pathmanathan.



Other notable awards include the Darjah Johan Negeri (102 recipients), the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri (30 recipients), and the Pingat Gagah Perwira to Mazlan Abdul Rahman for rescuing two people from the Penang Bridge on Jan 15.

This year, 1,204 people will be honoured with medals and commendations over four days from tomorrow until Aug 1.
