Zahid’s daughter tears up while paying tribute to Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Nurulhidayah Zahid, the daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, shed tears as she paid tribute to the incarcerated former prime minister Najib Razak at the party’s general assembly today.

Debating Zahid’s policy speech, Nurulhidayah said Najib’s aura and presence could still be felt at Dewan Merdeka, the venue for the party’s general assemblies held annually.

At every division meeting I attend, I hear motions from Wanita Umno delegates urging that ‘bossku’ be given the justice he deserves,

she said, using the nickname affectionately given to Najib by his supporters.

I personally support these calls and hope that Umno’s top leadership will firmly uphold justice for ‘bossku’ without fail, recognising his contributions through both challenges and triumphs.

Yesterday, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said 72 divisions had submitted motions demanding justice and a full royal pardon for Najib.

He said the motions were received from a total of 171 divisions nationwide.

Najib, 70, who has three other criminal cases that are ongoing, began his initial 12-year prison term on Aug 23, 2022 following the Federal Court’s dismissal of his final appeal.

On Feb 2, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that the former Umno president’s prison sentence had been reduced from 12 years to six and his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.

He is currently serving his sentence at Kajang prison and is set to be released on Aug 23, 2028.

In April, he applied to the High Court to compel the government to produce a purported addendum from the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong allowing him to serve his sentence under house arrest.
