7 conditions in govt’s MoU on funds for opposition MPs, says PN
BANGI: The draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) on allocations for opposition MPs contains “strange conditions”, says Perikatan Nasional (PN).
They include requiring MPs to declare their assets and pledging support for the government until the end of the parliamentary term, said PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said PN was still discussing whether to accept the seven conditions proposed by the government in the draft.
“What does the allocation for MPs have to do with supporting the government until the end of the term?” he told a press conference after the SG4 (summit of the four PN state governments).
“We also don’t understand why non-government MPs need to declare their assets when this should only involve members of the administration, such as the prime minister, deputy prime ministers and ministers.”

Besides asset declarations and support for the government, Takiyuddin said the MoU also addressed issues on the 3Rs – race, religion and royalty.
The Kota Bharu MP was asked to comment on whether PN had discussed the MoU involving allocations for opposition MPs.
Takiyuddin was previously reported as saying that PN had received the draft MoU.
However, last Monday, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said he had not received any response from the opposition since sending the draft.
Takiyuddin said PN would continue to deliberate on the draft, either soon or before the next Dewan Rakyat session, before submitting their response to Fadillah.
“This letter is dated Aug 1, but I received it on Aug 6. We haven’t made any decision yet, but we will decide by the end of this month.”
