PETALING JAYA: Deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching has denied claims making rounds on social media that the Palestinian flag was flown during the National Day parade.

In a brief Facebook post, Teo said that the flag that a helicopter was photographed displaying was the Armed Forces flag.

She also posted an image of the armed forces flag and a screenshot of a WhatsApp message labelling the armed forces as “disgusting” for purportedly flying the Palestinian flag.

The claim that a Palestinian flag was flown during the parade comes days after social media users had questioned the use of a pro-Palestine display bearing the words “No Surrender” at the National Stadium when the national anthem was played before the start of a football match.

Malaysia is a staunch supporter of Palestine and a vocal critic of Israel, especially in the ongoing war in Gaza between Tel Aviv and Hamas.

Last month, Putrajaya flew injured Palestinians from Gaza to receive medical treatment in Malaysia.
