Pahang’s Tengku Hassanal urges fair probe into alleged attack by royalty

PETALING JAYA: Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah has urged the police to ensure a fair investigation into allegations that a member of the state’s royal family had attacked a man in June.

Tengku Hassanal maintained that no one was above the law, not even members of the royal family.

“I call on the police to urgently conduct a complete, transparent and fair investigation, without compromise, to ensure that justice is served.

“If there is proof that an offence had been committed, the perpetrators must be brought to court to be charged and tried.

“Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, and I will not protect anyone involved in any crime or who breaks the law, not even members of the royal family,” Tengku Hassanal said in a statement.

He was responding to a Malaysiakini report that road construction worker Alias Awang was allegedly attacked by a group of people, including a Pahang royal family member, at a horse stable in Kuantan three months ago.
Alias was allegedly stabbed with a sharp weapon and shot at in the incident.

Meanwhile, Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said the investigation paper into the incident is being completed and will be sent to the public prosecutor soon.

He said several people had been arrested and released on bail before this, while witnesses were also summoned to assist in the probe.

According to Bernama, Yahaya said the probe paper was previously sent back by the public prosecutor’s office for the cops to carry out further investigations.

The case is being probed under Sections 324 and 148 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon and rioting with a weapon.
