2 more doctors, agent remanded in false Socso claims probe
PETALING JAYA: Two more doctors have been remanded in George Town, Penang, to assist in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s investigation into a cartel allegedly involved in falsifying Social Security Organisation (Socso) disability claims.
The doctors, aged 43 and 50, were remanded today along with an agent linked to the cartel, Oriental Daily reported.
It brings the total number of suspects remanded in connection with the investigation to 36.
Yesterday, three orthopaedic specialists and 30 others were remanded for between one and three days to assist in the investigation. The 30 comprised 19 claimants, eight agents and three runners.
Two of the orthopaedic specialists are said to be from two government hospitals while one is from a private hospital in Seberang Jaya.

It is understood that the cartel, allegedly active since 2017, was involved in making RM2.1 million worth of false claims related to spinal injuries and anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
The claimants who received the money would take 50%, while the remaining 50% would be distributed among the doctors, agents and runners.
It is alleged that the doctors, who are suspected of forging medical reports, could receive up to RM10,000 for each claim.
The human resources ministry has ordered Socso to suspend processing disability claims from hospitals allegedly linked to the cartel, and to come up with a new SOP for processing these claims.
