Ismail Sabri’s elder brother launches new political party
Newly launched political party, Parti Kuasa Rakyat or Kuasa has reportedly been launched today with an eye on the 15th general election.
The party is led by Kamarazaman Yaakob, a former member of the Parti Sosialis Rakyat Malaysia and also the elder brother of Prime Minister Tan Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who vowed to champion the struggles of the common man.
As reported by Free Malaysia Today, Kamaruzaman, who is the party’s pro-tem president, said Kuasa will be open to all ethnic groups and East Malaysians.
He said the party will push for free education, housing and health as well as jobs for the bottom 40 per cent (B40) and middle 40 per cent (M40) households.
Apart from that, Kuasa is also seeking the abolishment of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and replacing it with scholarships for the B40 and M40 groups.
Kamaruzaman added that the party will also give autonomy to its Sabah and Sarawak members.
“They will not only be given the freedom to decide on their leadership at state level but also their representatives at the central level to fill quotas, which include the deputy and vice-president posts,” he said in his speech at the party launch event today.
Other pro-tem committee members of the party include former Padang Serai MP N Gobalakrishnan, G25 member Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Hassan, Gabriel Walter, Datuk Mohamad Nasir Saludin, former Pahang Amanah chief Hamzah Jaaffar, Datuk Anas Yusof Sulaiman, Sahandri Gani Hamzah, Helmi Ibrahim, Razali Abd Razak, Suharmili Rosle and former MCA member Ching Eu Boon.
Kamaruzaman, unlike his family who are lifetime Umno members, was a former president of the Universiti Malaya Student Union and took part in the 1974 Baling demonstration to protest against the declining rubber prices.
He was also one of those who were later detained under the now defunct Internal Security Act (ISA) together with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
