Coconut falls on rider: Victim recovering at Penang Hospital

GEORGE TOWN: A pillion rider, who fell off a motorcycle after a coconut landed on her head in a freak incident along Jalan Teluk Kumbar here yesterday, is being treated at the Penang Hospital.

The victim’s daughter has since taken to social media to update about her mother’s condition.

The daughter, who goes by the handle name Yaya Gani on Facebook, said her mother had regained consciousness and still under observation at the Penang Hospital.

“Her (my mother’s) condition is quite serious. She broke her right shoulder, left hand, and two ribs.

“As for my younger sister, who was seen running towards my mother following the incident, she is okay except for being traumatised.

“I will continue to update on my mother’s condition from time to time,” she said.

Yaya urged everyone to pray for her mother’s speedy recovery.

A 28-second video footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media, showing the victim falling off the moving motorcycle and lying on the road after the coconut fell on her.

Fortunately, the motorcyclist managed to control the machine and stopped by the side of the road.

Several passers-by could be seen in the video footage trying to alert other motorists to slow down as the motorcyclist helped the victim.

It is learnt that the coconut tree would be chopped down later today.
