PH rejects cooperation with PN
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan has ruled out the rekindling of any cooperation with Perikatan Nasional at the moment.
PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said PH was now focused more on strengthening the pact to face the 15th General Election (GE15).
The Setiawangsa Member of Parliament said PN offering to work with other parties showed that the coalition was desperate and had lost its cause.
“We are focused on strengthening the PH to face the election. So there is no question of cooperation with PN.
“We focus on PH’s work. There is no discussion with other parties.
“We have gone through the Sheraton move. They are also the ones who made the Sheraton move take place.
“So if we want to give back (together), when they (PN) seem desperate and lost, for me that is not the right move,” he told BH today.
Yesterday, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged opposition party leaders to consider re-opening the door for negotiations with PN, if they considered the principal enemy in GE15 to be Barisan Nasional (BN).
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president said the move was to prevent BN from returning to power and repeating the abuse of power and corruption in the national administration.
Muhyiddin said that negotiations involving the parties had been held before, especially after the Johor state election, but nothing was finalised.
PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil said so far there has been no change in the pact’s stance, especially in the aspect of preparing its election machinery.
“At this time, no negotiations have been done. The focus is more on consolidation for PH itself,” he said.
He is also of the view that Muhyiddin needs to admit that the Sheraton move created great instability in the country.
“At least he should admit that is what we see is happening today, in which Umno is seeking to wrest back power. The Sheraton move ‘revived’ an entity called Umno. This happened,” he said.
Fahmi, who is the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, said what was important for PH was to focus on its preparation for GE15, which is expected to be held this November.
“Many discussions will be concluded this month and we will start from there. In fact, we have also seen signs of the Prime Minister being pressured by his own party, rather than reduce, this will peak in the coming weeks,” he said.
Meanwhile, DAP national vice-chairman Teresa Kok said her party would never work with PN because of the ‘backstabbing’ committed by Bersatu through the Sheraton Move.
The Seputeh Member of Parliament said PN was also still part of the Keluarga Malaysia government, which also has Pas and Umno.
“PN is still in the Keluarga Malaysia government. Does he (Muhyiddin) want to leave now?” he asked.
Kok added that DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng had previously issued statements several times that the party would not cooperate with Muhyiddin.
“There is no second chance for him,” he said.
