Nine nabbed over fight at Bukit Tengah entertainment joint

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained nine men to assist in an investigation into a fight involving a group of men at an entertainment joint in Bukit Tengah near here on Sunday.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Cheng San said they received a report on the fight at 1.43am involving the group.

“In the incident, several men were injured after they were hit with sharp objects. As a result, police arrested nine men to assist in the investigation.

“All the local men, aged between 17 and 32, who were arrested also suffered injuries. They were sent to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital for treatment,” he said today.

Tan said initial investigation revealed that the cause of the fight was due to a disagreement, leading to the scuffle.

The men have been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation into the incident.

The case is being probed under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting using weapons.
