Women’s Institute Pahang to host ACWW 30th Triennial World Conference next year
KUALA LUMPUR: The Women’s Institute (WI) Pahang will host the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) 30th Triennial World Conference 2023 in Putrajaya next year.
Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who is the WI chairman, said the conference will take place from May 18 to 25, at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel.
“The conference is supposed to happen this year, but because of the uncertainty stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic, it has to be postponed to next year.
“It is expected that some 500 ACWW members from around the world will attend the conference,” she told a Press conference at the Istana Negara Club House today.
ACWW was founded in 1929 to bring together rural women and their organisations across the globe. It seeks to address the challenges they face because of their communities’ isolation, discrimination against women, and their lack of standing in political processes.
ACWW’s membership spans 82 countries, and since 1947, the association had passed over 180 policy resolutions by popular vote.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is scheduled to open the event.
Tunku Azizah said introduction to the country’s culture at the event would also be prioritised.
“The participants will also be taken to various places to expose them to development, tourism and culture closely related to the topic.
“Four packages have been presented and agreed to by the ACWW Board of Trustees. ACWW world president Magdie De Kock, deputy world president Alison Burnett, executive director Tish Collins and advocacy director Nick Newland had visited these places back in January.
“These four locations are the Orang Asli Development Department office in Gombak, Forest Research Institute Malaysia, National Craft Institute and Universiti Multimedia Cyberjaya,” her majesty said.
