151 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, only two in community

SINGAPORE, June 16 — Singapore, which will enter Phase Two of its reopening on June 19 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has preliminarily confirmed an additional 151 cases of the coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours.

With the latest infection figures, the tally now stands at 40,969 cases.

“Based on our investigations so far, there are two cases in the community, both of whom are work pass holders. There are no Singaporean or permanent resident cases,” the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement.

The ministry noted that the vast majority was still migrant workers residing in dormitories.

In a full data released late yesterday, Singapore classified 1,799 as community cases, 581 as imported cases and 38,438 as foreign workers in dorms.

As at noon Monday, 30,366 or about 74 per cent of the total number of patients have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There were 243 confirmed cases still in hospital yesterday with two in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The ministry said 10,183 who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Thus far, 26 have died from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

Meanwhile, four of Monday’s confirmed cases are linked to four previous cases to form a new cluster at 23 Tech Park Crescent dormitory.
