Landslide forces closure of Bentong-Raub old road
KUANTAN, Nov 18 — A landslide over a 60-metre stretch near Kampung Sungai Chetang has forced the closure of the Bentong-Raub old road, according to Pahang authorities.
Pahang Works, Transportation and Health Committee chairman Datuk Seri Norol Azali Sulaiman said the road had to be closed as the heavy rain experienced since Monday could trigger a bigger landslide there.
“The rain caused a river there to swell and overflow at a 20-metre-long culvert of 1.5-metre diameter. The Public Works Department (JKR) will repair and upgrade the culvert at an estimated cost of RM1.2 million to be applied from the JKR headquarters this week,” he told Bernama.
Norol Azali advised road users to use the Bentong-Raub federal road until the old road is reopened to traffic.
A notice on the closure of the road has been uploaded on to the Raub District JKR Facebook page and road maintenance concessionaire Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd has been instructed to put up signages.
