KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Sabah Umno leader has expressed disappointment over the constant politicking in the state.

Sabah Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) had, on Friday, made a unanimous decision to withdraw their support for the state government.

The state’s Umno liaison committee chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who is also Sabah BN chairman, said party members decided on the stand due to a “loss of confidence” in Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Bung Moktar also cited a breach of agreement between BN and Perikatan Nasional as a reason for the exit.

The state public works minister expressed his displeasure with Hajiji’s decision to fire Sabah BN election director Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak as chairman of Sabah Qhazanah and threaten a state cabinet reshuffle.

Despite this, five Umno state assemblymen threw their weight behind Hajiji. They are Datuk Shahelmey Yahya (Tanjung Keramat), Datuk Jasnih Daya (Pantai Dalit), Datuk James Ratib (Sugut), Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob (Sindumin) and Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari (Tempasuk).

The five had demanded that Bung resign, but retracted it later in a “revised” statement.
