Mokhzani is new Maxis chairman

PETALING JAYA: Mokhzani Mahathir has been named as chairman of telecommunications giant Maxis Bhd. He takes over next month when the current chairman, Raja Arshad Raja Tun Uda, steps down on April 22.
Raja Arshad has served as Maxis chairman since 2009.
Mokhzani, son of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has been on the Maxis board for some time.
Mokhzani currently serves as a senior independent director of the board, but will relinquish the role on April 22.
Raja Arshad will continue to serve as an independent non-executive director.
In a statement, Raja Arshad said Mokhzani was a highly experienced corporate leader and entrepreneur who is well-versed with the telecommunication industry.
“I am confident with the continued support and commitment from everyone at Maxis, the company will grow from strength to strength under his leadership,” he said.
Mokhzani, a prominent businessman and corporate executive, was a founder of Kencana Petroleum Bhd which he led to a RM11.8 billion merger with Sapuracrest Petroleum Bhd and the creation of Sapura Kencana Petroleum as Malaysia’s largest oil service provider.
Sapura Kencana Petroleum is now known as Sapura Energy.
Mokhzani also had holdings in Pantai Holdings Bhd, THB Industries Bhd and was chairman of Sepang International Circuit which hosted the FIA Formula One World Championship grand prix races for 13 years until 2017.
