DAP wants official report from state rep nabbed in raid

The DAP state assemblyman who was detained after allegedly testing positive for illegal substances has been asked to submit a written official report on the incident to the party.

Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said the assemblyman has been asked to submit a written report on the incident in order for the DAP Perak leadership and DAP national leadership to be informed of the factual situation accordingly.

“I contacted YB Terence Naidu, the Pasir Bedamar State Assemblyman yesterday and confirmed that he was arrested and detained by the police on Thursday night at a pub in Bandar Perai Jaya, Penang.

“He was released on police bail yesterday,” he said in a statement.

Nga assured the public that DAP takes the conduct, character and integrity of its elected representatives seriously.

“They should be exemplary in their ways as those who have been entrusted by the people to lead them,” he said.

Naidu was re-elected assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar, near Teluk Intan, in the 2018 general election. He secured a majority of 14,520 votes over his Barisan Nasional (BN) rival.

It was reported yesterday that the assemblyman was detained at a family karaoke outlet on the mainland at about 9pm.

It is learnt that the restaurant used to be a nightclub and is currently operating using a family karaoke licence, although the setting is similar to a night club.

Penang Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department chief Asst Comm Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah had said 36 people tested positive for drugs.

Of the number, he said 28 of them were men, including the state assemblyman, while the rest were women.
