2 men arrested for rioting in front of Ipoh restaurant
Police have arrested two men believed to be involved in a riot in front of a restaurant at Station 18 here yesterday.
A 52-second video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, showed a group of motorcyclists chasing a Perodua Bezza before it stopped in front of a restaurant before the riot broke out.
Some people, including food delivery riders were seen smashing the car.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the police have received a report on the incident at 11.51pm yesterday.
“The incident involved a male victim who was driving a car and was accused of stealing a mobile phone.
“Following this, there was a high speed chase between the suspect and victim until the car driven by the victim hit another vehicle before the riot, which involved a group of teenagers believed to be food delivery riders.
“The victim’s vehicle was damaged after the group hit it with plastic chairs, stones, and plastic cones,” he said in a statement today.
He said initial investigation found that the cause of the incident was due to a misunderstanding and an allegation of theft which could not be proven.
He said police arrested two men aged 23 and 27 at the scene and they were still tracking down more suspects involved in the riot.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damage through acts of mischief.
Those with information on the case can contact Inspector Sahridin Saat at 011-649 46477 or the nearest police station.
