AGC blocking release of Thomas report, says Puad

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has accused the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) of blocking the release of a report on allegations made in the memoir of former attorney-general Tommy Thomas.

“This is strange behaviour from the AGC. What does it want to hide?,” said Puad, relying on what he said was a leaked document.

He said Thomas’ memoir provided evidence and a clear admission of interference in the appointment of the Chief Justice.

Puad also questioned what happened to the case of former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and her husband who were alleged to have received RM700 million from 1MDB funds.

Earlier today, law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said only the Cabinet could decide if the final report on the Thomas memoir would be made public.

“If I’m not mistaken, it will be presented on Sept 30. It’s up to the Cabinet to decide whether it should be made public or not,” he told FMT.

The report is by a government task force appointed to investigate allegations in the book regarding abuse of power, interference in the judiciary, politically motivated prosecutions and other alleged offences.

It is believed to have raised 19 issues of concern.
