KUALA LUMPUR: Four individuals have been charged in connection to the embezzlement of RM92.5 billion from the Economic Stimulus Package.

Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, in a parliamentary reply on March 22 said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had opened investigation papers on the allegations.

“MACC has already opened several investigation papers on the Economic Stimulus Package embezzlement. Currently, four individuals are being charged in connection with the case,” she said.

Azalina said this in response to a question from Gobind Singh Deo (Pakatan Harapan-Damansara) about the investigation status of the embezzlement case.

Previously, the MACC arrested a 42-year-old chief executive officer, who allegedly played the “middleman” in the awarding of RM92.5 billion worth of government projects under the Economic Stimulus Package to selected contractors between 2020 and 2022.

At least five people are under MACC’s radar over the alleged misappropriation of RM92.5 billion in economic stimulus and recovery package funds.

They are believed to be the masterminds or middlemen in helping several companies obtain government projects worth between RM50 million and RM500 million through direct negotiations.
