PUTRAJAYA: A suspect who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over a case died while undergoing treatment on Thursday (June 15).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the individual was one of the three who were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal mining and money laundering in Raub, Pahang.

“During the investigation, our officers found the man to be unwell and immediately sent him to Putrajaya hospital.



“He died while being treated,” Azam said on Thursday.

Azam assured that the MACC would extend its fullest cooperation to the police, which was investigating the incident.

He said the MACC officers who were involved in the investigation would give their statement to the police regarding the incident.

“The MACC has also surrendered CCTV recording to the police to facilitate the investigation,” he added.

The deceased and two others were arrested in Bentong at 6.30pm on Wednesday (June 14), believed to be involved in illegal mining and money laundering, amounting to RM1.8mil.

Sources said the suspects were believed to have been carrying out the activities for the past four years.



It is learnt that their illegal mining activities had caused the state government of Pahang losses of about RM4.7mil.
