Bus driver caught driving without license for 12 years in Ops Patuh
NIBONG TEBAL – A factory bus driver who kept on driving for 12 years without renewing his driving licence was among the errant motorists caught under Ops Patuh recently.
The 48-year-old was ferrying 33 foreign workers from a factory in Batu Kawan to their dormitory in the Valdor area when he was caught by the joint operations between the the Road Transport Department (JPJ) with the Penang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and the National Anti-Drug Agency.
The driver claimed to have been unable to renew his licence for over 10 years as he had used up his money to pay his traffic summons, claiming that he was merely a substitute driver who was paid RM30 per journey.
Penang JPJ director Datuk Adenan Md Isa shared that the authorities had confiscated the bus, served a compound to the driver and taken action agianst his employer for using an unlicensed individual to drive.
“There are many such unlicensed drivers, and also without the public service vehicle licence, who don’t bother to get licenced just because they don’t think it’s important,” he said.
He added that Ops Patuh, which began on Nov 1 till this evening, took action against 2,203 vehicles and issued 2,806 summons for various offences, with the highest offence being not having driving licence (763 cases), no or expired road tax (421 cases), no insurance coverage (381 cases), and not having a PSV licence (113 cases). – BERNAMA
