PUTRAJAYA: Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil says there is no need for the authorities to suspend the registration of users for the Central Database Hub, or Padu, following a call to do so by a former DAP MP.

Fahmi said as of now the registration of users was going on “smoothly”.

“And issues raised, including security concerns, are being monitored,” he told reporters here.

Earlier today, Ong Kian Ming called for the registration of Padu users to be suspended until concerns over security issues are resolved.

The two-term MP said the system should be properly stress-tested before it is rolled out again.

Ong said users who had registered but had yet to complete the electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) verification should be asked to register again after the security issues had been resolved.

He also criticised the number of details needed to register for Padu, saying some information should already be available through ministries and government agencies.

Ong said with so many additional fields to fill in, many users would skip them or provide inaccurate information to remain eligible for government subsidies.

He added that in highlighting the flaws in the Padu system, he hoped they could be quickly rectified before the next parliamentary sitting so that opposition parties would not have the opportunity to use them for political mileage.
