Opposition MP snubs challenge for no-confidence motion against Anwar
Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan says the ‘advice’ for a no-confidence motion against the prime minister shows dissatisfaction among PKR representatives with Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

PETALING JAYA: An opposition MP has rejected Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim’s “advice” to promptly file a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim before the Dewan Rakyat reconvenes next month.

Bersatu’s Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the proposal indicated dissatisfaction among PKR representatives with Anwar’s leadership, citing a failure to deliver on long-promised reform commitments.

“It’s not surprising if PKR MPs themselves are inclined to propose a change in leadership for Anwar.

“I advise PKR representatives and other government MPs: you are responsible for Anwar’s failure to safeguard the welfare of the people, control the rising cost of living, and chart the country’s course.

“It is because you are the ones defending a vengeful, incompetent and directionless prime minister,” he told FMT.
Wan Saiful also said that Hassan, a PKR MP, was involving Perikatan Nasional (PN) in executing his idea due to a fear of repercussions if he acted independently.

“So government MPs need not advise us in PN. Reflect on yourselves because your continuous support for Anwar is causing our country to face increasing difficulties,” he said.

Hassan, commenting on the “Dubai Move” yesterday, said PN must be serious if it wished to test Anwar’s validity as prime minister, having accused him of not possessing a simple majority of 112 seats.

Hassan said a no-confidence motion could be brought based on Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution and must be referred to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker at least 14 days before the session begins.

FMT previously reported lawyer Bastian Pius Vendargon as saying the best way to test Anwar’s support would be in the Dewan Rakyat itself.

The “Dubai Move” refers to alleged talks in the United Arab Emirates between certain opposition leaders and government representatives to topple Anwar’s administration.
