Gobind won but remains number 2

Gobind Singh Deo got 1,782 votes in the 2022 DAP CEC election, far ahead of his nearest rival Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

Gobind’s excellent record in defending the position of influential individuals in DAP cannot be denied by any party.

However, the numbers did not matter as Gobind failed to grab the post of DAP Secretary-General after Lim Guan Eng.

Obviously a relatively large victory does not necessarily guarantee the highest position in the party and that is experienced by Gobind himself.

He is only given the post of DAP’s Deputy Chairman despite towering over Lim Guan Eng who only got 1,311 votes.

On the other hand, Lim Guan Eng continued the ‘Lim Dynasty’ in DAP when he is now the National Chairman of DAP.

It is a bit strange that the winning individual is only given the number 2 position in the party and this raises the question of whether DAP is really opening up space and opportunities to other races for the highest position of DAP?

As a party that often claims to be ‘multi-racial’, it is not appropriate at all to sideline Gobind from getting the post of DAP Secretary General who everyone knows is very powerful and influential in DAP.

The appointment of Anthony Loke as Secretary-General gives a negative impression in DAP’s plans to promote the party itself. Is it because of racial favouritism that only allows the Chinese to be appointed as Secretary General?

Gobind is being laughed at by many for winning but remains number 2 and has to abide by the party’s ruling.
