Fabrizio Romano says West Ham closing in on ‘fantastic’ signing

West Ham United have hit the ground running in the summer transfer market and it looks as though they’re only just getting started.

The Hammers wrapped up the signing of Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras early on in the window and soon followed it up by landing Wes Foderingham on a free transfer.

West Ham have been linked with a number of top players in recent weeks, and now it looks as though they’re about to get another big deal over the line.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has declared “here we go” on a deal that should see an “outstanding” defender join the Hammers if all continues to go well.

West Ham closing in on Max Kilman signing

The player in question is Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman, who the Hammers have been heavily linked with in recent weeks.

Now, Romano has taken to X to declare “here we go” on Kilman to West Ham, with the two Premier League clubs having verbally agreed a £40million package.

The move could continue to develop fast, with the 27-year-old reportedly set for a medical as early as today if all goes to plan.

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui saw him as a key target, added Romano. And it looks like he’s about to get his man.

West Ham in dire need of someone like Kilman

West Ham endured a difficult 2023/24 season in which they failed to qualify for Europe and shipped far too many goals.

The Hammers conceded 74 times in the Premier League last campaign, more than any other team in the top half of the table.

With that in mind, Kilman is just what West Ham need to strengthen their shaky back line.

The 27-year-old is not only superb with the ball at his feet, but he is also said to be one of the best in the Premier League in terms of one-on-one defending.

Molineux Hall of Famer Andy Thompson said on Wolves Weekly Matchday Live Extra in April: “He’s probably one of the best in the Premier League one-vs-one defending.

“He just seems to get better every time we see him. He’s comfortable on the ball. he heads it, he’ll pass it, he challenges for things, he’s strong, he’s a good player and he’s getting better.”

Meanwhile, Conor Coady told the Wolves website in 2020: “Max has been with us for years, he trains with us every single day, he knows the role inside out, he’s a fantastic lad and a brilliant professional as well.

“He’s brilliant to have around and is a brilliant professional – he listens to the manager, he learns off the lads who’ve been playing there the last couple of years and I think you could see that today.”
